Enrollment in Echols County School District increased over previous year

The only school district in Echols County had rising enrollment in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

There were 846 students in the halls of Echols County School District, 2.7% more than the year before.

Enrollment in Echols County bucked the state's trend compared to the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 52% of them were male, and 48% were female.

The most represented ethnicity among Echols County School District students was white, accounting for 50% of the student population.

Echols County School District has a main office in Statenville and is the only school district within Echols County.

According to the Georgia Department of Education, over 1.6 million students were enrolled in Georgia's public schools during the 2021-22 school year. The state boasted a diverse and closely distributed student body across grade levels, with roughly 44% of the students in elementary, 24.5% in middle school, and 31.5% in high schools.

The state also registered an ethnically diverse student body, with 34.4% of the students identified as white, 36.5% as Black, 17.1% as Hispanic, and 4.5% as Asian.
