Enrollment in Ben Hill County School District decrease from previous year

The only school district in Ben Hill County faced declining enrollment in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

There were 2,778 students in the halls of Ben Hill County School District, 1.8% less than the year before.

Enrollment in Ben Hill County was steady compared to the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51% of them were male, and 49% were female.

The most represented ethnicity among Ben Hill County School District students was Black, accounting for 43% of the student population.

Ben Hill County School District has a main office in Fitzgerald and is the only school district within Ben Hill County.

As of 2024, Georgia has an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:15, which is better than the national average of 1:16. The state has its best student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1 in pre-kindergarten and middle school grades, while high school has an average ratio of 17:1.
