Georgia House Majority Caucus Whip James Burchett (R-Waycross) has welcomed the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) announcement that $3 billion in aid will be distributed to support farmers facing economic challenges. Burchett recently traveled to Washington, D.C., where he met with senior USDA and White House officials, as well as U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff, to advocate for federal assistance for Georgia’s agricultural sector.
“I’m proud to see the Trump Administration take decisive action to support our nation’s farmers,” said Whip Burchett. “After my recent visit to Washington advocating for Georgia priorities, I’m thrilled that this $3 billion in USDA aid will help hardworking Georgia farm families and rural communities. This is exactly the kind of leadership our agriculture industry needs, and I will keep fighting to secure every resource that protects our farmers, strengthens our economy and keeps Georgia’s heartland thriving.”
Burchett emphasized that the funding comes from the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC), a government-owned entity designed to stabilize farm income and prices. The aid aims to offset reductions in agricultural purchases by foreign countries. He also noted that the USDA plans to resume Farm Service Agency (FSA) core operations, including processing farm loans and running programs such as Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC), which provide financial support for producers.
Jon G. Burns, a Republican who was elected in 2005 to represent Georgia’s 159th House District after Ray Holland, continues his role in state politics.
