FOIA Request to Wilcox County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South Georgia Times have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Wilcox County Election Department in Georgia. The request was made under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., and we asked for the records preferably in electronic format.
The information requested pertains specifically to the methods being used by the department to count votes in the upcoming election. If the votes are being counted manually, we also requested an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.
Access to public records is crucial for us at South Georgia Times as it allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We eagerly await a response from the Wilcox County Election Department and will keep our readers updated with any developments regarding this matter.
