FOIA Request Sent to Thomas County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Thomas County Election Department in Georgia on October 29, 2024. The request, filed by South Georgia Times, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, seeks information about the methods used for counting votes in the upcoming elections.

Specifically, the FOIA request asks for details about whether vote counting will be done manually or through other means. If manual counting is employed, South Georgia Times has also requested an estimate of the number of people who will be working on election night.

As a media organization, South Georgia Times plays a crucial role in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to such public records enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
