FOIA Request to Ben Hill County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024.

In a continued effort to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South Georgia Times have submitted a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. This request is aimed at gaining insight into the methods employed by the Ben Hill County Election Department in counting votes for the upcoming elections.

Specifically, we have requested information on whether the vote counting process will be manual or automated. If it is to be manually counted, we have also asked for an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

As a media organization, our role involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We believe that as media professionals engaged in disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver for this request. We eagerly await a response from the Ben Hill County Election Department and remain committed to keeping our readers informed about local governmental affairs.
