A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Irwin County Election Department in Georgia on October 29, 2024. The request was made by South Georgia Times, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request specifically asked for a list of methods used by the department to count votes. If manual counting is being employed, the department was also asked to provide an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.
As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we at South Georgia Times believe that access to such information is crucial. It allows us to effectively fulfill our professional responsibilities which include reporting news accurately and comprehensively to the public.
In light of our role as a media organization disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver for this FOIA request. We eagerly await the response from the Irwin County Election Department and will continue our efforts in promoting transparency within local government operations.
