FOIA Request Sent to Wheeler County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024

FOIA Request to Wheeler County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024.

As a team of committed journalists at South Georgia Times, we have sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., to the Wheeler County Election Department in Georgia. Our request seeks information about the methods being used to count votes in the upcoming election.

In particular, we are interested in understanding whether vote counting is being done manually or using automated systems. If manual counting is employed, we have asked for an estimate of the number of people who will be working on election night.

Our mission at South Georgia Times is to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. Access to public records such as these is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. We eagerly await a response from the Wheeler County Election Department and will continue our efforts to keep our readers informed about important local government processes.
