Turner County Education: Fewer students enrolled in Turner County School District in 2022-23 school year

The only school district in Turner County faced declining enrollment in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

There were 1,093 students in the halls of Turner County School District, 0.5% less than the year before.

Enrollment in Turner County was steady compared to the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 50% of them were male, and 50% were female.

Data also showed that most of the students were Black, representing 66% of the Turner County School District's total enrollment.

Turner County School District has a main office in Ashburn and is the only school district within Turner County.

According to the Georgia Department of Education, over 1.6 million students were enrolled in Georgia's public schools during the 2021-22 school year. The state boasted a diverse and closely distributed student body across grade levels, with roughly 44% of the students in elementary, 24.5% in middle school, and 31.5% in high schools.

The state also registered an ethnically diverse student body, with 34.4% of the students identified as white, 36.5% as Black, 17.1% as Hispanic, and 4.5% as Asian.
