Atkinson County Education: Fewer students enrolled in Atkinson County School District in 2022-23 school year

The only school district in Atkinson County faced declining enrollment in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

There were 1,526 students in the halls of Atkinson County School District, 0.3% less than the year before.

Enrollment in Atkinson County was steady compared to the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51% of them were male, and 49% were female.

The most represented ethnicity among Atkinson County School District students was Hispanic, accounting for 44% of the student population.

Atkinson County School District has a main office in Pearson and is the only school district within Atkinson County.

As of 2024, Georgia has an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:15, which is better than the national average of 1:16. The state has its best student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1 in pre-kindergarten and middle school grades, while high school has an average ratio of 17:1.
