Census Bureau: 4.4% of people in Berrien County identified as multiracial in 2021

Of the 18,195 citizens living in Berrien County in 2021, 95.6% said they were only one race, while 4.4% said they were two or more races, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained in June.

The most prevalent racial group among citizens in Berrien County who reported being of a single race in 2021 was white, comprising 82% or 14,913 individuals. Following them, African American accounted for 9.8% and totaled 1,776 individuals.

The percentage of multiracial residents in Berrien County is 0.4% lower than the state average, which stands at 4.8%.
