8 inmates in Montgomery County could be released during Q2

Webp 35edited

The sentences of eight inmates in Montgomery County could be completed in the second quarter of 2023, releasing them from the custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections.

These inmates have a maximum possible release date that falls in the second quarter of 2023. The State considers these dates as when the longest-running sentence with time served for a criminal is set to expire. The actual release date of those incarcerated in Georgia jails could happen earlier due to the inmate being granted clemency.

The inmate who could be released during the second quarter of 2023 who served the longest amount of time was Daniel Foor for Kidnapping. Daniel Foor spent more than 20 years incarcerated.

Georgia imprisons a higher percentage of its population than any other democracy in the world, locking up 968 per 100,000 people.

States spend between $25,000 and $30,000 on average annually on incarcerated individuals.

Georgia’s crime rate increased in recent years, leading to higher incarceration numbers and more taxpayer money spent on prisoners.

Accusations of mistreatment of inmates, riots, deadly assaults on inmates, attacks on correctional officers, and concerns about the poor physical condition of the facilities are a continual problem in Georgia.

Data irregularities can be caused by inmates transferring around the state, and being released earlier than their maximum possible release date. Further information about parole and pardons in Georgia can be found here.
