Wheeler County could have 15 inmates finishing their sentence during January

The sentences of 15 inmates in Wheeler County could be completed in January, releasing them from the custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections.

These inmates have a maximum possible release date that falls in January. The State considers these dates as when the longest-running sentence with time served for a criminal is set to expire. The actual release date of those incarcerated in Georgia jails could happen earlier due to the inmate being granted clemency.

The inmate who could be released during January who served the longest amount of time was Christopher A. Harris for Sexual Offender Failing to Register. Christopher A. Harris spent more than 30 years incarcerated.

Georgia imprisons a higher percentage of its population than any other democracy in the world, locking up 968 per 100,000 people.
