September is Suicide Prevention Month. Here is how you can help.
September is Suicide Prevention Month. The Economic Development Division has teamed up with Nicole Dempsey, Suicide Prevention Coordinator (SPC) with the Department of Veteran Affairs North Florida and Southwest Georgia, to offer a FREE Training to the SRTC community. Nicole Dempsey, LCSW is a Suicide Prevention Coordinator (SPC) with the Department of Veteran Affairs NF/SG. As a SPC, Dempsey provides suicide prevention information to the community as part of the VA’s #1 Initiative- To Prevent Veteran Suicide. Prior to her work as a SPC, Ms. Dempsey worked in the homeless program, with youth and families through in-home therapy, and provided individual and group counseling, specializing in substance use disorders.
The LIVE virtual training will be on Thursday, September 16, from 1 - 2 p.m. This is FREE and open to anyone who would like to participate.
By participating in this training, you will:
- Have a general understanding of the scope of suicide within the United States.
- Know how to identify if someone may be at risk for suicide.
- Know what to do when you identify someone at risk
- Receive a Certificate of Completion from SRTC Economic Development
