Reports from the Georgia Department of Education indicate Pine Grove Middle School’s Hispanic enrollment grew to 103 students for the 2024-25 school year, reflecting a 2% rise from the previous year.
Enrollment data shows Pine Grove Middle School had 739 total students in 2024-25. Hispanic students accounted for 14% of the student population, ranking as the third-largest ethnic group at the school.
The school operates within the Lowndes County School District, whose central office is based in Valdosta.
Across the 11 schools in the district, Lowndes High School registered the highest Hispanic student enrollment for 2024-25, with 396 students.
The Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report noted that more than 1.7 million students were enrolled statewide in public schools. Elementary schools led total enrollment with 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by 388,733 in middle schools (22.7%) and 539,092 in high schools (31.4%).
Chronic absenteeism continues to challenge Georgia schools post-pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. To address the problem, GaDOE has initiated a statewide effort featuring a real-time attendance dashboard, a public awareness campaign, and focused support for districts with high absenteeism to help raise daily attendance rates.
In 2025, state lawmakers updated Georgia’s school attendance laws, prohibiting expulsion solely due to absenteeism. The legislation introduces new reporting requirements and supports programs offering alternative paths for students to earn diplomas.
As of 2026, Georgia recorded an average student-to-teacher ratio near 14:1, ahead of the national average of 15:1.
