Georgia House Majority Caucus Whip James Burchett (R-Waycross) released a statement following the death of former Vice President Dick Cheney, who passed away on November 3, 2025.
“Over his decades of public service, Dick Cheney served the American people and the people of his home state of Wyoming well. I’ve learned much from his service, including his time holding the leadership role in Washington that I hold in Atlanta as Whip. Misty and I hold his wife Lynne, his daughters Liz and Mary and the entire Cheney family in our prayers,” Burchett said.
Dick Cheney held several key positions during more than forty years in public service. He was White House Chief of Staff under President Gerald R. Ford, U.S. Representative from Wyoming, Secretary of Defense under President George H.W. Bush, and Vice President under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009.
In related Georgia political history, Jon G. Burns has represented the state’s 159th House District since being elected in 2005 as a Republican, succeeding Ray Holland.
