AT&T has announced an expansion of its 5G and fiber internet networks in Thomasville, aiming to improve connectivity for residents, businesses, and visitors. The upgrade includes a new cell site along Charlie Ward Jr. Drive near the Thomas County Schools Transportation Department and expanded AT&T Fiber availability, now reaching more than 4,000 residential and business locations.

Esther-Marie Lawrence, Executive Director of Imagine Thomasville, commented on the development: “AT&T’s commitment to expanding advanced fiber networks and wireless connectivity in Thomasville will help bridge the digital divide and open the door to new opportunities. With AT&T’s new cell site and fiber expansion, Thomasville is positioned to attract innovative businesses, support remote work and education and ensure our community stays connected.”

Between 2020 and 2024, AT&T invested nearly $16.9 billion in wireless and wireline networks across Georgia. These investments have contributed to improved reliability, coverage, speed, and performance for users throughout the state.

The company reports that its 5G network now serves over 315 million people in more than 26,900 cities and towns nationwide, including Thomasville. The recent upgrades also bring Band 14 spectrum to the area—a high-quality frequency designated for FirstNet public safety communications but also available to regular customers when not used by emergency services.

Colin Martin, Regional Director of External Affairs at AT&T Georgia said: “At AT&T, we know how important it is for our customers to stay connected. We are proud to invest in Thomasville with the fiber and wireless infrastructure necessary to connect in today’s digital world. With expanded access to AT&T Fiber and 5G, our customers will be able to experience better network connectivity that will help with virtual learning, business growth and connecting with one another.”

AT&T states it is the largest fiber internet provider in the country based on publicly available data about households connected via fiber-to-the-home technology. The company highlights that its service can support speeds up to five gigabits per second (Gbps), suitable for activities such as remote work, online learning, telehealth services, gaming on multiple devices at once.

Customers using these services are covered by what AT&T describes as an industry-first guarantee focused on dependable connectivity along with competitive offers and customer service.
